The World's Mad Dog. The American Embassy and the Iranian Invasion.

Thirty-three years ago Iran violated the territory of the US and took the folks in our embassy hostage. Thus began a 444 day national nightmare. At the time, the Iranians were also thinking of invading the embassy of the Soviet Union but did not. Andrei Gromyko was the Soviet foreign minister at the time and he remarked "if they would have done that, Tehran would have been a parking lot by lunch the next day". Ronald Regan took office the day the hostages were released and proclaimed "that was an act of war". Jimmy Carter did nothing, tried a failed rescue operation, and then talked, talked and talked some more. Thirty years later and it is an even bigger mess. Thanks Jimmy.

Iran is the World's Mad Dog, just as World War I Germany was proclaimed. It took World War II to finally kill the mad dog. I don't see this going very well at all.

June 6th, 66th anniversary of D-Day and the passage of the New Deal.

One more thing...the $1 late Pick 4 at Belmont paid $83,000. And no I did not have it.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month...WWI ended.

This very moment back in 1918 WWI ended. The carnage was unimaginable. The fighting lasted until the very last minute. Why? The beginnings of the Great Depression had begun.

Ronald Reagan had the guts to say what was true. The Soviet Union was an "evil empire". He caught hell for that. It makes those who derided him for it look like the fools that they are.

150 years ago the world learns of the name of John Brown

The Battle of Tours: October 10, 732

Today is a major date in history. It is the 1277th anniversary of the Battle of Tours, up in west-central France. This is said to be the battle that stopped the advancement of Islam in Western Europe. The high water mark if you will in 732. It took until 1492 for the forces of Islam to be ejected from the European continent, out of the Spanish port of Grenada. Thus you sometimes hear Osama Bin Laden refer to "the crime of Iberia" meaning the ejection of Islam from the Iberian peninsula. The high water mark for the spread of Islam in eastern Europe came on September 11, 1683 when the Ottoman Empire was stopped at the gates of Vienna. And now you know why 9/11 happened on September 11th.

This event brought the word "appeasement" into the English language. As Churchill said "If he (the appeaser)feeds the crocodile enough, the crocodile will eat him last." Think Iran is simply a problem for the Israelis? Then keep feeding that crocodile big boy.
