I heard that someone once commented that we are the only country in the world where the poor people are fat. There is a ring of truth to it. Until I see more "poor" people go hungry there is little I am interested in with regards to income and inequality.

Absolute poverty is what matters. Relative income inequality always has and always will be with us...and is meaningless. I saw a picture of a dude in a homeless shelter the other day taking pictures with a Blackberry in one hand and a bowl of soup in the other. Anecdotes, I know. But I don't even have a Blackberry because I can't justify the expense. I know, anecdotes.

The poor people are fat because it is expensive to eat healthy. You can eat for less that Three dollar a meal at Mcdonalds. Try buying the ingredients for those meals at Whole Foods for less.

There is no financial incentive for the poor to eat healthy.

Great Blog Dr. Parker!

Thanks so much. But how much does it cost to stop cramming stuff in your pie hole?
